Nowadays technology already becomes an integral part in our lives. As we can see, technology give us more easier, comfortable and better life.
Are we placed too much trust in
technology?
As said by Edelman (2015), nowadays 69% of people are placing too much trust in technology more than ever before. For instance, people nowadays are more preferring paying their bill online. This is because people think that the online bill payment is faster and can eliminate the procrastination factor.
Besides, when booking a flight tickets, you rely on
reservation system to remember that you are booked on a particular flight in an
acceptable seat. When you online purchase items, you believe the system in the
website can calculate the accurate prices to you. Furthermore, we also brave to
share our personal details on social media. Obviously, we do these things
without second thoughts until somethings are going wrong.
According to Hardre
(2016), the reason why people are over trusting the technology because
technology had become human-like. In additional, it can fulfill a variety of
human needs such as providing information, facilitating work, and facilitating
communication.
Technology can making us dumber.
Hence, it cannot be denied that technology can make us dumber.
This is an article that stated five reasons why
technology is making us dumber https://spyglassviewer.wordpress.com/2012/08/31/5-reasons-why-technology-is-making-us-dumber/.
As stated in the article, we rely on GPS navigation
system to provide information and guiding us to reach the location.
However, you might be misleading by navigation.
Although navigation system stated that “You have reached your destination”, but
the place you actually reached is not your destination and it can get you lost.

It is undeniable, new technologies have changed people daily activities and behaviors. Many people rely much on electronic devices such as smart phone and cannot live without social media. They do think that those social media bring convenience instead of making them dumber. They feel good at multitasking. In this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HffWFd_6bJ0that I watched, it said that studies have proven that heavy media users actually perform worse than others.
ReplyDeletePeople should use the technologies wisely. Control your usage of new media before they start changing your brain.
In my opinion, relying too much on the technology indeed cause us become dumber. Not only become dumber, people also become lazier as the technologies make everything easier and convenient. Everything that we do always rely on the technologies, without it, sometimes feel it like a doomsday. Instead of people control the technologies, it's more likely the technology has control us. Here an article about sign people depend to much on technology. I believe each of us have experience at least one of these signs. http://www.mnn.com/green-tech/gadgets-electronics/stories/7-signs-we-are-too-dependent-on-technology
ReplyDeleteAlbert Einstein once said, "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." If human still overly rely on technology, we will be nothing but idiots who know only how to use technology. By that time, we will be lack of social skill, critical thinking or even surviving skill. We should be aware of the hidden cost that we need to pay for depending on technology too much.
ReplyDeleteWell, I would not say that technology makes me dumber. But I did agree with your statement saying that we are placing too much trust in technology. Technology has slowly replaced piece by piece of aspects in our life. We rely too much on technology and it makes us not used to think because everything we can get it by only clicking a button. We are too used to this digitized world and we are slowly turning into a 'feelingless' robot just like any other machines.
ReplyDeleteindeed, the existence of technology has made our life easier, but in some circumstance we are too reliable on the technology as everything can be done by just one click. even when we are gathering with families and friends, we are focusing on the phone more than the individuals in front of us. technology suppose to be the medium to connect people, not the factor to distant each other.
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on how we use technology. Take for examples, Google, the most hit search engine in this world. A hasn't finish his assignment from his lecturer and he is going to pass it tomorrow, so to make things simple, he copy and paste the assignment he searched in the Google. In this case, A is undeniably made dumper by the use of technology because he does not even think to solve the problem and only depend on the Google. B is interested to know the history of World War 2 but he is not affordable and free to search and buy all the related books in the bookstore, so he search that information through Google. In this case, we cannot say technology made us dumper, but it is playing a role to teach us some new things in an easier way. What I think technology really change the people is the lifestyle of the people nowadays, which is technology makes us lazier. In the first place, it is for convenience but somehow how we move, eat, social, and even sleep nowadays are all depending on the technology. Technology is life now.
